Over 30 and staying sexy

Your thirties are supposed to be your best years, you finally have a handle on your relationships and you’re on track at work. You’ve gotten your act together. But it’s at this exact moment that life throws you for a beauty loop. Thirty is often the age when you start to see your looks changing…and not for the better.

Those first deep wrinkles begin to emerge, turning once-charming crinkles into full-on crow’s-feet. High school-style acne may decide to make a comeback, or crop up for the very first time. Damage from decades of sunburns can begin to emerge as brown spots and saggy skin. Hormones are one of the main causes for all these problems the majority of hormone changes start in our 30’s.

Because we’re engineered to have babies in our teens and twenties, our reproductive hormone levels begin to taper off in our thirties, which can result in hair loss and a variety skin conditions. Human growth hormone, or HGH, begins to drop too, which means cells don’t turn over as quickly. This means our collagen production slows down, giving way to dull, sagging skin.

And if you spent your twenties on a beach chair with a glass of chardonnay in one hand and a cigarette in the other, those vices will begin to show on your face. Everyone is going to see some changes in her thirties due to hormonal shifts, but for those who have been tanning, drinking, smoking, and eating poorly, the problems are going to be worse. Because our skin cell turnover slows along with slowing collagen production everyone sees a little wrinkling in their thirties, but for sun worshippers and smokers, you begin to see it earlier.

Dermatologists recommend wearing broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 is the best thing you can do for your skin they also recommend using a physical sunblock like titanium dioxide, which doesn’t wear off as quickly as chemical sunscreens. And you need to use it every day. Veris Natural Mineral Sunblock with SPF 30 (www.verisnaturally.com) contains titanium dioxide, organic aloe and organic green tea extract.

Layer an antioxidant serum under your sunblock. Research shows that layering an antioxidant serum under your sunblock can help make sunscreen more effective. Veris Red Tea Serum is a super antioxidant containing a higher concentration then that of green tea or vitamin C penetrates deep into the skin to provide protection from sun damage and pollution, while promoting healthier and more youthful skin.

SPF stands for sun protection factor. Sunscreens are rated or classified by the strength of their SPF. The SPF numbers on the packaging can range from as low as 2 to greater than 50. These numbers refer to the product’s ability to deflect the sun’s burning rays (UVB).

The sunscreen SPF rating is calculated by comparing the amount of time needed to produce a sunburn on sunscreen-protected skin to the amount of time needed to cause a sunburn on unprotected skin. For example, if a sunscreen is rated SPF 2 and a person who would normally turn red after 10 minutes of exposure in the sun uses it would take 20 minutes of exposure for the skin to turn red. A sunscreen with an SPF of 15 would allow that person to multiply that initial burning time by 15, which means it would take 15 times longer to burn, or 150 minutes. Even with this protection, sunscreen photo degrades (breaks down) and rubs off with normal wear, so it needs to be reapplied approximately every two hours.

Sun exposure is responsible for vitamin D production in the skin, so wearing sunscreen will decrease the skin’s production of vitamin D. Individuals who wear sunscreen and are concerned that they are not getting enough vitamin D should use options like vitamin supplements. I like Vita Logic Vitamin D-3 formula. (www.shopihl.com)

How to Look Naturally Younger

Anti-aging skin care is a very poplar concept in today’s world. Anti-aging skin care is about discipline. It is about being proactive. Anti-aging skin care is great way to slow the ageing process.  You also can look 10 or 15 years younger.  Here are 8 Tips for proactive anti-aging skin care:

Tip 1- Maintain healthy living and eating habits:

Many people under estimate the benefits of healthy living, healthy eating. Combining the right foods with the right amount of positive activities in your life not only does wonders for your body – but works for your skin as well. A well balanced diet is the key to maintaining a proper body metabolism. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables (raw), they are the best source of fiber and have a very refreshing effect on your body. I also like to include a good Multi Vitamin Supplement in my daily routine. I like Vita Logic Daily Extra it is the best on the market (www.shopihl.com)  And we all know it…but I have to say it… Don’t Smoke, consume alcoholic beverages in moderation, avoid oily and fatty food; not only do they lack in essential nutrients but also cause obesity and other diseases which aid the aging process.

Tip 2- Beat stress:

This is probably the most important anti-aging skin care measure. Stress disturbs the body metabolism and accelerates the aging process. Sleep, exercise and a relaxing bath, are all good ways of beating stress. Treat yourself to a massage or other type of bodywork. Doing so on a regular basis can help to lower your heart rate and blood pressure and promote muscle relaxation and emotional release. According to Stephen Sinatra, M.D., author of Heart Sense for Women, “It’s not uncommon for the release of long-held sadness to occur as a result of bodywork.” Aroma-therapy is also known to bust stress.

Tip 3- Drink a lot of water:

Anti-aging skin care can’t be any simpler than this. Drinking water in adequate amounts is a must do to flush out toxins out of the body via the excretory system. With inadequate amounts of water flowing through the body, these toxins can build up in the body and escape through skin pores. This contributes to acne. Therefore, by flushing the body internally with water, acne breakouts are less likely to occur due to toxin release through the skin. Women should drink at a minimum, at least 64 oz. of water (per day) is recommended by most doctors. If exercising double this.

Tip 4- Regular exercise:

A wonderful anti-aging skin care procedure. Besides toning your muscles, it also helps in cleaning the skin by flushing out the toxins in the form of sweat. Exercise should be followed by a warm shower in order to completely remove the toxins.

Tip 5- Cleansing:

Simple is key here. You need to find a good cleanser that your skin responds well to, and stick with it. Avoid bar soaps as they tend to dry out the skin. According to Rona Berg, in her book, “Beauty,” a French cosmetics executive once told her, “Soap should only ever touch your skin from the neck down.” I agree. In the evening before I go to bed, I use a dime-sized bit Veris Natural Cleanser, and then rinse with cool or lukewarm water. In the morning, I do the same thing (you need to remove excess oils from your nightly moisturizing). Never wash your face with hot or cold water (both can cause broken capillaries). Also be careful about cleansing and not moisturizing afterwards.

Tip 6- Exfoliate:

Exfoliation is the step most people skip in their weekly skincare routine. But trust me, if you start properly exfoliating your skin, you will notice an almost immediate difference. According to Berg, one of the reasons men’s skin looks more youthful than women’s is because men tend to exfoliate daily when they shave. Veris Peppermint Exfoliating Cleanser works by removing the top layer of dead skin cells that tend to dull your complexion. I find exfoliating skin once a week with a microdermabrasion keeps skin glowing year-round.

Tip 7- Moisturize:

A basic law of beauty is that everyone, no matter of his/hers skin type, should moisturize. Especially after cleansing or exfoliate….Yes even if your skin is oily, it will benefit from moisturizers.  Why? Moisturizers seal moisture into skin (Berg calls this the “Saran Wrap effect”).  When your skin is tight, it’s crying out for moisture. Veris Multi Peptide Complex with Resveratrol is the best I have found, I moisturize in the morning and I moisturize in the evening before I go to bed. Are eye creams necessary? Well I think so. Some beauty experts strongly recommend eye creams. Why? The skin around the eye contains no fatty tissue and is therefore very thin and susceptible to wrinkles. Special eye creams are formulated to “thicken” and reduce puffiness and discoloration in this area. Veris Youth Restoring Eye Cream with Vitamin K is designed for this and I included it in my daily regimen. Yet other experts (including the beauty editors of Allure in their new book) claim your daily lotion works around the eyes just as well.

Tip 8- Apply Sunscreen:

O Magazine ran an article featuring interviews with several top skin care experts and dermatologists (check this out). Every single one of them said sunscreen was the most important part of your skincare regimen. It was the secret they would pass on to their daughters. The number-1 cause of wrinkles is sun damage, so it’s important to use sunscreen from your early years on even in winter and on cloudy days. A great trick is to purchase two moisturizers: One for night like Veris DNA Revitalizing Night Cream and one for day like Veris Natural Mineral Sunblock that includes UV protection and works well under make up. Don’t use moisturizers with sunscreen at night, the ingredients are not meant to be used 24/7 and can aggravate skin. I can’t say it enough Protect, Protect, Protect your skin against UV radiation; UV rays are known to speed up the aging process. So, a good sunscreen lotion should be a part of your anti-aging skin care routine.

EAT YOGURT

Eat Yogurt

Yogurt is the only dairy product that is good for your skin. During the fermentation process the probiotic bacteria make it easily digestible. The probiotic bacteria in yogurt are also very important for healthy, radiant skin because they improve the immune system and kill bacteria that cause acne and other skin problems.
People have been making—and eating—yogurt for at least 5,500 years. Today it is a common food item throughout the world. A nutritious food with unique health benefits, it is rich in protein, calcium, riboflavin, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12.

Should you use a toner?

Should you use a toner?

Some people swear by toners, but many beauty experts do not. I once read a skincare expert claim, “toners are only for copy machines”. Toners are meant to remove all remaining traces of oil, makeup and dirt, but a good cleanser such as Veris Natural Cleanser should do this. I firmly believe it’s up to you. If you like the way your skin feels with a toner. Buy it. Use it. Enjoy it.

The Birth of Veris

When my youngest daughter asked me “where did your wrinkles come from”? I knew it was time to make a change. I had tried so many different skin care products before but none seemed to give me the result I was looking for. So I started Veris to answer one simple question: Why can’t I find products that make my skin feel and look fresh, vibrant, smooth, and naturally youthful, without needles or without going under the knife?

I consulted with dermatologists, cosmetologists, and even plastic surgeons to identify the highest quality natural ingredients combined with the latest science to come up with unsurpassed products that I am proud to share with you.

Through my research I learned that the best results are achieved by following three simple steps – Cleanse/Balance to remove dirt and oil, Repair/Restore to bring youthful vitality back to your skin and Protect/Prevent to protect your skin from harmful elements. This is why I have created the VeriSystem to offer you a simple way to get everything you need. If you follow this system every day you will see noticeable results within a month.

My products are designed not only to make you look younger, but make you look younger naturally. Isn’t that what we are all striving for? The name Veris comes from Latin and means “the spring of life” and that is exactly the way I want you to feel and look when you use our products. So come on in and take a look at our products and pick the ones that you like best. Thanks for your interest and I hope your search for naturally younger looking skin begins here.
